Three out of five Americans have trouble sleeping.
The following recommendations from the National Sleep Foundation can help:
- Avoid caffeine in the afternoon and evening. Caffeine can affect some people up to ten hours after they consume it.
- Don’t smoke. Nicotine is a stimulant that can disrupt your sleep.
- Stay away from alcohol within a few hours of bedtime. Alcoholic beverages can make you fall asleep faster, but they reduce the quality of your sleep an can make you wake up in the night.
- Exercise regularly, but not within three hours of bedtime. “Working out late could keep you from falling asleep.
- Don’t nap during the day.
- Stick to a relaxing bedtime routine. this tells your brain it’s time to go to sleep.
- Make your bedroom dark, quiet, and cool.
- Don’t eat a large meal within two hours (three hours for me) of bedtime. If you need a snack before bed, reach for something light, such as a bowl of whole-grain cereal, banana, or peanut butter sandwich.

Other recommendations that have worked for me:
- Change your sheets often. Fresh sheets make your body feel good and help you relax.
- Take a warm shower or bath before bedtime
- Read something relaxing
- Don’t watch anything on T.V. before bed that could disturb your sleep i.e. horror or the news.
- Play soft music that will turn off on it’s own
- Run a fan for the hum
- Cold diffuse Lavender or put some on your pillow. Lavender will help your body and mind relax
- Have your partner give you a moderate massage or relaxing caressing
- For the woman in your life, rub her hair and head. Most women relax with a good head massage.
- For you married couples, knocked each other out by having sex. A natural sleeping pill for sure!
- Avoid sleeping pills which can become addictive and harmful and instead use all natural therapeutic grade essential oils instead
- If you have acid reflux, don’t eat anything three hours before bedtime and also use at least two pillows under your head/neck to allow gravity to work in your favor.
May you have a good night sleep!

Something that also works for me: body brushing. It's a great way to start and end the day.
Sweet dreams!
