Reason for the Change
The cost of the NingXia wolfberries has been escalating since 1993
when Gary Young first created NingXia Red (formerly known as Berry
Young Juice). In 1993 workers in NingXia province, China were paid
$1.20 per day (for a 10 hour work day) to harvest the wolfberries for
our NingXia Red. In 2012, the NingXia workers are paid $3.50 per hour
(for a 10 hour work day that’s $35/day) to harvest our wolfberries.
That’s almost a 30 times increase in the cost of labor! So in order for
us to continue enjoying the benefits of NingXia Red at a reasonable
price, it became necessary for Gary Young to create a new formula. Gary
began looking for other longevity fruits and berries that could add to
the power of Young Living’s NingXia Red and increase the benefits of the
drink. He also decided to add more essential oils to the drink and
change the agave to stevia so that he could lower the glycemic index of
the drink.
Ingredients
Whole NingXia wolfberry puree
Blueberry juice
Plum juice
Cherry juice
Aronia juice (Blackberry juice)
Pomegranate juice
Essential oil blend of Grape see extract, Orange, Lemon, Tangerine and Yuzu oils.
Stevia extract
(Raspberry and Apricot juices and agave have been taken out.)
Benefits of the New NingXia Red Power Juice
Black cherry, plum and aronia juices all add to the antioxidant power
of the NingXia wolfberries in NingXia Red. This increases the S-ORAC
score of NingXia Red increases 30%.
The S-ORAC score measures a drink’s ability to neutralize the
dangerous superoxide free radical by increasing superoxide dismutase.
This is the most destructive free radical in the body. Elevated
superoxide has been linked to cancer, asthma, heart disease and other
serious conditions.
Sweet Cherry Juice – Prunus Avium
Antioxidant Support – Cherries are a rich source of
flavonoids, natural compounds that are most widely recognized for their
potent antioxidant activity. In fact, anthocyanins
flavonoids isolated from cherries have been shown to possess
antioxidant capabilities superior to vitamin E. This powerful free
radical scavenging capacity has broad ranging health implications for
the immune, cardiovascular, and musculoskeletal systems. Additionally,
cherries have also been shown to support the body’s natural
anti-inflammatory response.
Joint Support and Uric acid control - By disarming
free radicals, which can damage healthy cells, flavonoids contribute to
the integrity of capillaries, collagen structures, eyes, joints, and
arteries. Research has shown that anthyocyanins and cyanidin flavonoids
present in cherry fruit can positively impact joint health.
Beneficial for Gout – Uric acid levels are high in
people who have gout. A recent study found that consumption of sweet
cherries promotes optimal pH balance by maintaining healthy uric acid
levels, revealing yet another way in which cherries contribute to joint
health. Gout starts in the liver and cherry juice also helps cleanse
the liver.
Cardiovascular Support - One of the most exciting
new findings regarding cherry fruit consumption is its potential support
in the area of cardiovascular health.
Health Insulin Production – Researchers recently
found that anthocyanins naturally present in sweet cherries support
healthy insulin production in pancreatic cells. Cherry consumption may,
therefore, help maintain healthy insulin and blood sugar levels that are
already within the normal range.
Sleep Support - A recent study, the first to reveal
that melatonin can be naturally present in food sources, found that
both sweet and tart cherries contain high levels of melatonin. While
additional trials are needed to validate cherry fruit as an effective
sleep enhancer, this study implies yet another potential health benefit
of cherry consumption.
Plum Juice – Prunus Domestica
Osteoporosis Prevention – Several
studies have demonstrated that dried plums, or prunes, which contain
high amounts of polyphenols, can restore bone mass and structure.
In a 3-month study involving 58 postmenopausal women, dried plums
significantly increased serum levels of insulin-like growth factor-I
(IGF-I) and bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (BSAP) activity. Higher
levels of both serum IGF-I and BSAP are associated with greater rates of
bone formation. Although further studies are desirable, these results
suggest that dried plums may have beneficial effects on bone mineral
density. Another study concluded that dried plum polyphenols enhance
osteoblast (bone formation) activity.
Prunes are a good source of boron, which is believed to play a role in prevention of osteoporosis.
Cholesterol Reduction – Phenolic compounds in prunes had been found to inhibit human LDL oxidation in vitro
.
Cardiovascular Disease Prevention – High potassium content of prunes (745 mg/100 g) is beneficial for cardiovascular health.
Cancer Prevention – According to
the American Cancer Society, foods high in fiber and vitamin A may offer
some protection against cancers of the gastrointestinal and respiratory
tracts as well as cancers induced by chemicals.
Researchers have found that the phytonutrients in plums inhibited in
vitro breast cancer growth without adversely affecting normal cell
growth.
Natural Laxative – Plums and
prunes are both effective laxatives, with prunes being the more
effective of the two. The laxative action of both prune and prune juice
could be explained by their high
sorbitol content. Some
food chemists suggest that what makes the prune such an effective
laxative is not its fiber but another constituent, an unidentified
derivative of the organic chemical isatin, which is related to another
natural substance, biscodyl, the active ingredient in some
over-the-counter laxative tablets and suppositories. Biscodyl is a
contact laxative that induces the secretion of fluid in the bowel and
stimulates contractions of the intestines that push waste through the
colon more quickly and efficiently.
Better Digestion – Increases your own production of enzymes naturally.
Glycemic Index of Plums – In a study to determine the estimated glycemic index of various foods, it was concluded that plums have a low GI.
Aronia Juice (Black Chokeberry) – Aronia Melanocarpa

Research shows Aronia has a higher ORAC than any other domestically grown and consumed berries in the USA.
Benefits of the Aronia Berry
• It’s antimicrobial properties promotes a healthy urinary tract
• Has anti-inflammatory properties to help prevent and relieve arthritic symptoms
• Fights bacteria and viruses, such as colds and the flu
• Strengthens memory
• Aids digestion
• Helps the body produce good cholesterol and lower “bad” cholesterol
• Provides the body with essential oils
• Possible aid in the management of diabetes.
• It has colon cancer-fighting properties
• Aronia is high in fiber and contain pigments (anthocyanins) which can help prevent cancer.
• Has the highest antioxidant capacity of any domestic food reported to date
• Increases neurological, motor and cognitive functions.
• May help to prevent neurological disorders such as dementia
• Improve nighttime visual acuity and prevent and even reverse macular degeneration
• Help fight against heart disease and other cardiovascular problems, promote cardiovascular health
• Rich in vitamin B2, vitamin B6, vitamin C, vitamin E, and Folic acid.
• It may slow the effects of aging
High in potassium. Excellent muscle support.
Prostate Support – Protects the prostate by reducing inflammation and
preventing cancer. All men over 45 years of age have some level of
cancer. Aronia Berry is also high in zinc in B vitamins which support
the prostate. B15 is anti-carcinogenic.
Yuzu Oil (Japanese Citron) – Citrus Juno

Yellow
to orange skinned citrus, usually medium sized, with highly fragrant
rind and flesh. Flavor is acidic and tart. The fruit is relatively rare,
and highly prized.
Roughly the size of a tangerine, sour tasting, and bright yellow in
color, yuzu is still a newcomer in the U.S. Specialty shops and Asian
groceries often carry it in the form of juices, vinegars, powders, and
pastes that can be drizzled on foods, or slipped into recipes to add
flavor and a nutritional boost to fish, vegetables, and pastas.
Studies conducted over the past few years by the Department of Food
and Nutrition at the Research Institute of Human Ecology, Seoul National
University, have shown yuzu to be high in antioxidants and vitamin C,
with the largest concentration of nutrients contained in the fruit’s
tangy skin. Because vitamin C fuels collagen production, yuzu is finding
its way out of the kitchen and into beauty products.
Kochi Medical School in Japan investigated in vitro anti-inflammatory
effects of limonene from yuzu peel on human eosinophilic leukemia HL-60
clone 15 cells. These results suggest that limonene may have
potential anti-inflammatory efficacy for the treatment of bronchial
asthma by inhibiting cytokines, ROS production, and inactivating
eosinophil migration.
NingXia Wolfberry Puree, Pomegranate Juice, Blueberry Juice
These fruits continue to give us the same amazing health benefits as always. You can learn more about their benefits at
www.ningxiared.com. You can also read the Ebook called
NingXia Red, Facts and Research by Judy DeLaRosa for more information about these ingredients.
New Sweetener in NingXia Red
Stevia extract has replaced Blue Agave as a sweetener for several
reasons. It is better for diabetics because it has a lower glycemic
index.
Also, there is a lot of bad publicly about agave. This is partially
due to the fact that a lot of agave that is now on the market is being
extended with corn syrup to increase the profits. So when this
adulterated agave is tested for health benefits it gets a bad rap.
Gary wanted to use Yacon Syrup but it is not approved for internal
consumption in Europe, Australia and Japan. If Yacon Syrup was used in
the US version, it would be too expensive to produce another version
for these foreign markets.
Stevia has a lot of health benefits.
Acid Levels

The new NingXia Red formula has a pH level o 3.7. The old formula
had a pH level of 3. NingXia Red is less stabile if it becomes too
alkaline. The acid helps stabilize the drink so it doesn’t spoil.
If you have a very acidic body NingXia Red will taste more acidic to you. Use Alkalime to improve your pH level.
Stabilizers
Because NingXia Red is a living, enzyme-rich super food, it will
spoil quickly if it is not stabilized. Young Living does NOT use
synthetic stabilizers. It uses only natural stabilizers – tartaric
acid, sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate.
They are all used in a very, very small amount. Gary chose tartaric
acid over malic acid because it is better for you and less acidic.
Sodium benzoate is naturally occurring in most fruits and vegetables
that we eat. Young Living uses a natural mineral source of sodium
benzoate in NingXia Red. The confusion arises in people’s minds because
sodium benzoate is also produced synthetically and this type is bad for
people to consume. Just like synthetic essential oils are very
different than Young living oils, synthetic sodium benzoate is very
different than naturally derived sodium benzoate.
Glycemic Index
The old formula had a glycemic index of 19. The new formula has a
glycemic index of 14. It is better for prediabetics, people with
hypoglycemic and diabetics.
